Lana Del Rey started out about 7 years ago. She started in New York, where she was born, singing as the leader of the church choir at 11. She began singing in Brooklyn at 18, doing open mic nights and opening for folk singers for a few years. She signed to an indie record label at 19 and her dad supported her early career and helped get word out. She changed her name from Elizabeth Grant to Lana Del Rey because she wanted a name that “sounded as beautiful as the music”.
